The Good Belly Witch
After eighteen years, my time at the International School is drawing to a close. And more than a few people have asked me: What's next?
Initially, I just shrugged my shoulders and mumbled that I didn't know yet. Then it struck me. I knew exactly what I wanted to do.
I have always believed that what you put into your body matters. It's why, when Jake and I were trying to conceive, I went to a completely organic diet and started doing fertility yoga instead of taking the medication my OBGYN offered. When we had our kids, I sought to make them adventurous, conscientious eaters. We subscribed to several CSA (community-supported agriculture) boxes; we foraged; we planted vegetables on local farms; and they joined me at butchery classes and other experiences that showed them that food doesn't just appear in a grocery store, wrapped in cellophane. It grows in the ground or it comes from a whole animal.
Now, as my circle of friends launch into our Level 50s, we have developed sensitivities or allergies; we are contending with peri-menopausal symptoms; and we are seeing even more serious health issues from high cholesterol to cancer. I have always believed in food as medicine. And I found a Gut Health Practitioner Certification that made me shout 'Eureka!'
My next chapter will be studying the anatomy and physiology of the gut; learning about gut microbiota and its role; delving into nutrition and gut health; and understanding and implementing natural approaches to gut health. Because I see this as another culinary adventure, I have decided to house my information on Culinary Cam.
Here's to a good belly!
