This week the Sunday Funday group is celebrating National Cappuccino Day which is November 8th! Amy is hosting.

Stacy of Food Lust People Love, Sue of Palatable Pastime, Rebekah of Making Miracles, Wendy of A Day in the Life on the Farm, and I coordinate this low-stress group; we only participate when we are inspired. As I mentioend, this week Amy is hosting.

The #SundayFunday Coffee Bar

A Trio

What is it about the number three? I don't know, but I know that I was either going to post one recipe or three recipes. Here we go...

It Starts with Caffè

I opted for the Italian spelling of espresso - caffè - because I used my stovetop espresso maker for any coffee needed and an Italian coffee liqueur instead of using Mexican Kahlúa which is probbably more common. My stovetop caffettiera isn't the typical Moka Pot by Bialetti because I avoid cooking in aluminum. I have gone through a ridiculous number of pots bceause of that! Bialetti does have a stainless pot, but it has a plastic handle. Ugh. I don't want aluminum and it can't have a plastic handle because I have an industrial Viking stovetop and I have melted every plastic handle I have tested. Every. Single. one.

For all of these recipes, feel free to use whatever espresso or coffee you have available. While I was making these, I had to have a caffè in my favorite cup. Thanks to Rikke for sending this to me all those years ago.

Espresso Martini

When D mentioned an Espresso Martini, I thought it would be the perfect addition to this trio of coffee-kissed cocktails. He thought it was too basic. But I was inspired by the way I like my Caffè - with a twist of lemon. So we made an Espresso Martini with a splash of limoncello.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces espresso

  • 1 ounce coffee liqueur

  • 1 ounce limoncello

  • 1/2 ounce vodka

  • 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice

  • Also needed: ice; cocktail shaker; lemon slice for ganish

Procedure

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. pour in the ingredients. Shake until well-chilled. Strain into a coupe. Garnish with a slice of lemon.

Negroni al Caffè

Most people have a favorite liquor. For instance, Jake is a fan of Scotch; D likes rum. I am a gin girl t through and through. Don't get me wrong: I will join Jake in a pour of Lagavulin, but gin is my jam. This is a simple, yet delicious twist on the classic negroni that keeps you awake for the party. The mix of coffee and classic Negroni ingredients combine to create an uniquely delicious drink all its own.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce gin

  • 1 ounce Aperol

  • 1 ounce espresso

  • 1/2 ounce vermouth

  • 1/2 ounce coffee liqueur

  • Also needed: ice; nice ice cube for serving; cocktail shaker; lemon twist and coffee beans for garnish

Procedure

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. pour in the ingredients. Shake until well-chilled. Place a nice ice cube in your serving glass. Strain into a glass. Garnish with a lemon twist and a few coffee beans.

Caffè Old Fashioned

Next to any gin cocktail, an Old Fashioned is one that I will actually order.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce bourbon

  • 1 ounce coffee liqueur

  • cocoa bitters

  • Also needed: ice; nice ice cube for serving; cocktail shaker; candied Amarena cherries

Procedure

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. pour in the ingredients. Shake until well-chilled. Place a nice ice cube in your serving glass. Strain into a glass. Garnish with a Amarena cherries on a cocktail pick.

Cheers! That's a wrap on my offering for this week's #SundayFunday. The group will return next week when I host an event in honor of National Bundt Day. Stay tuned!
