You're invited. In June I am hosting Movies & Munchies and am asking the group to watch Nonnas; it's available to stream in Netflix. I hope the gals will watch and join me in heading into the kitchen.

Summer Mosaic Salad
This isn't much of a recipe as it's just some knife skills and beautiful Summer ingredients: watermelon, feta cheese, and roasted Chioggia beets. But I am sharing this because the colors remind me of the Italian flag! Once everything is arranged, drizzle with olive oil and aged balsamic. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and chiffonaded basil.
On the Screen
Nonnas - yes, I had bite my tongue that the word should be Nonne - is a lively movie based on a true story. Using the life insurance money after his mom's death, Joe Scaravella, played by Vince Vaughn, opens up a restaurant on Staten Island. Instead of hiring chefs, he hires "real life grandmothers" to do all of the cooking. As you can imagine there is so much food on the screen. Just in the opening scene there is a parade of Italian favorites including all kinds of Italian sweets, zeppoli, bread, cannoli, and handcut pasta. When Joe gets to his Nonna's house, she tells him: A tavola non si invecchia mai. This Italian proverb translates to "you never grow old at the dinner table." With that sentiment, Joe and all the Nonne will be ageless!
How to Participate
Are you ready to jump in and participate in the June #MoviesandMunchies event? Here are the details…
Watch the movie, head into the kitchen, and post your permalink in the Facebook event group by June 29th. I will round all the posts up on June 30th. That's it! I can't wait to see what everyone makes.

Pronto al tavolo!
This movie not only inspired me into the kitchen but now Staten Island is on my bucket list so that I can go to this restaurant.
